The Cedar Avenue of Nikko is one of the most amazing avenue in Japan. The Avenue lines up on both side with about 13,000 cedar trees, called Sugi. This 37 km long street created about 400 years ago is listed in “The Guinness Book of World Records”

The trees were started to plant by Matsudaira Masatsuna approaching to Nikko’s Toshogu Shrine. Later on, a man named Masatsuna Matsudaira took over the construction and he started to plant about 200,000 Japanese cedar trees but today this street has only about 13,000 cedar trees because of road construction and more.
